A Gilmore Night

On Tuesday I got to spend the night as Rory. I had the scene with Lorelai in the cemetary, and there was a new girl in class, so I also got to be Rory for the Sandeesays interview. Since Gilmore Girls is a phenomenon, even though I think you probably should have seen it by now, I will try not to give any spoilers.

We did the cemetary scene first, about 4 times, then once with the subtext improv beforehand. This was one of the times when I was not on the ball for the improv, but kept having to try not to laugh. Possibly something to do with the fact that I knew so much of the backstory and my scene partner knew so little, or very likely because she was absolutely hilarious and it was improvised so I wasn’t prepared for it.

As for the scene itself, our main adjustments were to raise the stakes, and a few minor tweaks about the backstory behind certain lines. I really like the way it turned out, and had a blast doing it.

The last scene of the night was the interview scene, which we started at the time class normally ends at. We ran it a few times in the back, since my scene partner hadn’t been there last week, before we did it on camera. Normally, I have a tendency to go slightly more apologetic and a bit weak in scenes like this, but today I decided to play more confident and to try and make it look like I am in control, even if I’m not. My adjustment was to be more thrown by the situation, which means taking more time to answer and being at a loss, but I still think it was a personal victory that I didn’t just automatically go for my usal go-to.

I was also a reader for a scene from the Mexican, where I got to be James Gandolfini. Although not exactly my casting, it is always nice to try things in class that you wouldn’t normally get to do 🙂

All in all it was a really fun class, with some new people, and only girls showing up 😉
