Work, Class, Combat, Magic

Already halfway through August. Summer is fading fast and I am nowhere near where I had planned to be by now, but I am still keeping busy.

I have worked a few days at McGill, which is always fun. One day I was playing a woman who had just given birth, while also writing a story about a character in the same situation during our breaks. This definitely put me in an interesting head space, and I personally think it made the acting and the writing a little better, because they could feed off each other.

I went to see two movies in theatres, both action/adventure films that I would absolutely love to be in one day. I enjoyed Suicide Squad, especially being able to see someone who taught me stunt skills using them on the big screen. Which reminds me I need to get back and do Level 2 😉 Star Trek was also really good, and I was happy to see Chekhov had a lot more screen time than previous films, but this was bittersweet, since we lost Anton Yelchin.

I read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which gave me a multitude of feels. Being a play means we can put a lot more of our imaginations into it, but I kind of wish I had more of J.K. Rowlings descriptions. And I get why people are saying it is like fan fiction. There are huge changes to what I knew to be true before I started it, and I got worried half way through, but it was also wonderful to be back in that world, and to see what everyone is up to.

I’ve had two more Stage Combat classes, and I am learning a lot, hopefully improving some, and having to rewire some things I had learnt at LAMDA in terms of eye contact. I now know how to make it look like I am grabing someone, pulling on their hair and smashing my head into a wall. Or at least I know the logistics, and am practicing to make them look awesome. And it is a whole lot of fun 🙂

On Tuesday, I had the cold reading class with Suzanna. We had new students, that I know from other places, and a lot of people couldn’t make it. So, after being blown away by the cold reads that came before mine, I read through my scene with someone who was not my scene partner, but was an excellent stand in. The scene is from 2 Broke Girls, which made it harder, because I didn’t want to play it like I had seen on the show. I stumbled over my words a lot, but we did get a few laughs and some tweaking to bring real emotion rather than just comedy. I also have to make sounds, which seems silly, but always makes me nervous, because it is my interpretation of what something sounds like.

Finally, on Friday, I did background where for about an hour I was on a plane. A fake interior of a plane to be precise, but I could convince myself I was about to go somewhere exotic when I was sitting in it. Also I love hanging out with Carolyne, but it is even more fun to be paid to hang out with Carolyne. Even if there is traffic and detours and we wondered if we would ever make it home.

There are some exciting things coming up soon, so I will keep you posted 🙂
