JEDI – Just Effing Do It
This week was really interesting as far as classes were concerned. Mostly because I learnt a valuable lesson. Or at least put it into practice. Thanks to Bonnie Gillespie for the awesome acronym 😉 You see, I truly embraced the concept of not hesitating and just doing it, even if I’m not ready and even if it scares me. Actually, especially if it scares me. On Monday, we were working on qualities, and one of the activities was a staple of drama schools, where you pretend to be an inanimate object. In this case, leaves. I was in a group of 4, but all the other groups had 3, so…

Now we’re talkin’
Although this is technically our second week of the program, it is really our first week of actual classes. It is starting to feel like Montreal was forever ago, but London and school are still new and exciting. This week I will tell you a little bit about all of my classes, so that in the future I will just mention them if something scary or amazing happened 😉 Mondays, my little group will generally have Voice, then Acting, before finishing off in Stage Combat. For Voice, we went over a monologue that was luckily from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, so I knew what was going on. This is the…

Meandering to the Barbican
This weekend, I had all kinds of plans, but I ended up just going with the flow. Which was slightly nerve-wracking at times, but turned out to be pretty awesome. On Saturday, I started off by walking through Portobello Road Market, which is really close to where we are staying. The shops were just setting up as I got there, and they had everything. Clothes, food, china, antiques, cameras, books…you name it, they probably have a shop that sells it. I saw all kinds of beautiful things, but decided I would come back and buy them once my day was done, so I wouldn’t have to carry them around with…

First Week and the Tower :)
For our first week in the program, the teachers really took it easy on us. After a first day of mostly games, and a second spent visiting Hampton Court Palace, the rest of the week was very relaxed as well. On Wednesday, we started late with Debbie, who had us moving a lot. The best way I could think to describe it was that we were seeing how certain imaginary circumstances affect us physically (but also emotionally). For instance, we divided into pairs, and it was super easy for my partner to bend my arm when I was forcing it to stay straight. It was less easy when I relaxed…

1st Day & Hampton Court Palace
Yesterday was my first day at LAMDA 🙂 We mostly just went over the schedule, had the basics explained to us and our questions answered. Until the afternoon. That’s when we played a bunch of games to possibly get rid of some shyness, and to have everyone get to know each other. Which continued during welcome snacks and drinks in the evening. Even with yesterday and all of my prior research, I am not sure what to expect from the course, but I am pretty sure that I am going to have an amazing time studying with all of these people 🙂 Today we didn’t have classes, but a school…

Fortnum & Mason
MY FIRST AFTERNOON TEA IN LONDON! I chose it because I thought the festive afternoon tea was still going on, which it wasn’t, but it was still delicious, and really made me feel very English. For starters, I decided to walk there, taking a shortcut through Hyde Park, and getting my first glimpses of Big Ben, the London Eye and Buckingham Palace. As soon as you walk in, you are surrounded with teas and treats that you can buy and take home, but I was in the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon, so I had to go up to the fourth floor, where you are greeted by a reception desk as…

My Goals for 2016
Happy New Year! I have the feeling that this year will be full of amazing experiences, and that’s not just because I am hours away from a flight to London. For one, this year I am making my resolutions things that I can accomplish without relying on other people. That might not make sense, seeing how a few of them were on the list previous years and I still haven’t crossed them off, but that’s because I am changing my definition of success. As long as I have done everything in my power to accomplish these resolutions, I will have won. Because even if I don’t get to where I…

Looking Back on 2015
I made a list at the beginning on the year of all of the things I wanted to do. I am going to quickly cover my progress on those items, but I want the majority of this post to be about all of the awesome things I did manage to do, regardless of the list I had set out with. Film something that I wrote: Although I did write a few scenes and a short that I would like to film, I only got as far as sending the scenes to Carolyne for her opinion. I did, however, do Self-tapes with scenes and monologues I had written for myself. Which,…

My First Writing Post
Okay, not my first post in this category, but the first time that I am sharing my writing with you. It’s from a story I still refer to as Prologue, because of a habit I used to have of saving things under the first few words instead of actually finding a title. I finished it for the July NANOWRIMO, and am currently editing it for possible, eventual publication. This actually really terrifies me, putting it here for the world to see, but here it is, my first piece of fictional writing on the blog 🙂 Prologue I watched the raindrops hitting the windshield, listening as the rain pounded on the…

My Last Class…For now
Tuesday night was our last class with Suzanna this year, but it was also my last class until I get back from London, which seems like forever, although I’m sure it will go by in the blink of an eye. We each had a scene that we did audition style, before moving on to the Pizza and Wine Party. My scene was short and sweet (except for not actually sweet) from Accidentally on Purpose. Without any context and completely ignoring one of his lines, I did the scene way too sweet and nice, since I figured I was trying to make the best of an awkward run in with an…
