End & Begin

Saturday was the end of an era as far as stage combat was concerned. Or at least the end for now, until Level 2 starts in the new year. We learnt some knee moves and slaps before filming ourselves doing a short choreography, which was so much fun. If you have the chance, definitely take Stage Combat with Shawn Baichoo 🙂

On Sunday, I watched my cousin cross the finish line of her very first half-marathon before doing a reading of a play for a friend. I have always really wanted to be a part of a table read, so this was one for the career bucket list!

We continued our golf lessons on Monday, finally going onto an actual (very short) course. We didn’t actually play it more than practicing our driver shots, but had we been playing Vegas style (where you play the best ball rather than each individual player’s) the first two would have been mine 🙂

This week, all of my days are dedicated to editing Shards of Glass, but on Tuesday night, I had my last September class with Suzanna. I finally got to do my second Begin Again scene on camera, audition-style. I considered choosing another one, since there are so few lines, and it is more about the scene partner, but I have been looking forward to it all month, and someone wise once told me that listening in a scene without speaking is the best acting exercise. So, I listened, reacted and completely fell forward when I fumbled over my very few lines, so that no one even noticed that I had.

This was also one of those classes where we are so few people (only 4 of us) so we think we have all the time in the world, get to talking and go over. There is so much to learn from the other people in class, and although this time I felt particularly behind career-wise, I have to focus on the fact that there is no one way to get where I want to go. While I might not have reached certain milestones that I wish I had, I am still constantly filming new things, building contacts, learning things…and I’m in this for the marathon of the career.

Class ended with a commercial audition, which I am beginning to think is just to get us used to looking ridiculous on camera. At least we have fun doing it 😉
