• Sur le plateau :)

Since I had promised a while ago to write lots of short posts instead of cramming everything into a single one, I thought I would give you a little update before heading out again. First of all, there is a short I did a few months ago, Sasha: Portrait of An Artist, that has been selected for the San Antonio Laughs Film Fest. Huge congrats to the entire team 🙂 Second, I was on set Monday. A French set. Where I had to have a heated argument and talk fast in a language that I don’t normally do that in. I told you I would share how it went and…I…

  • Rehearsals and a Scene :)

I can probably name all of my posts “Rehearsals” until May, but there are also other things going on 🙂 Thursday’s rehearsal was one actress short, but we still managed to run through all of our acting bits twice. Even with the guy who was replacing said actress going for comedy more than accuracy with the lines and maneurisms. Although it wasn’t a romantic scene, swapping a girl for a guy can still make it quite interesting. Friday I went to Mcgill for a bit and figured out when we would be filming for the “Yes! Let’s Make a Movie” event. Basically, someone decided that instead of sitting around and…

  • Sets and Inspiration

After a very productive Saturday spent learning valuable lessons from Bonnie Gillespie and the SMFA group, as well as editing the book I wrote last November, I got to spend most of Sunday on set 🙂 Unlike Friday, this time we actually had a lot of filming to do. Mostly short scenes of me doing things without, but there was also a scene with dialogue. Less down time than a few days ago, but we still got to catch up. And no matter how the rest of my life is going, when I am on set I feel like I am accomplishing something. So that empowering feeling mixed with my…

  • An Eventful Birthday Weekend

I have had a very busy birthday weekend, and I wouldn’t have it any other way 🙂 On Friday night, friends and family came out to watch some gory body horror shorts, all to support me. They did an amazing job, because at the end of the night, Lonely Ninja won Best Film at Mascara & Popcorn’s Body Horror Contest 🙂 Horror and gore may not be my favorite genre, but I had an amazing time filming both shorts, and am so grateful for the opportunity. I met some awesome people and created some genuine, incredible contacts. Looking forward to what comes next 🙂 On Saturday, I filmed a short…

  • Just Keep Swimming

This has been a pretty busy week for me. Not even once did I get to stay home all day in my pjs 🙂 I was a standardized patient for 3 days, getting lots of ultrasounds, so many that if ever a doctor was having trouble finding my gall bladder or my IVC, I could direct them right to it. I also know all kinds of medical facts that are slightly making me revert to my teenage dream of becoming a doctor…I’ll be fine once I join the cast of Grey’s Anatomy 😉 On Tuesday, Rikki and I had our first Dale Carnegie class, so we went out for dinner…

  • I’m On the List!

If the rest of the weeks of the year can be as productive as the last few, I will be a very happy girl 🙂 For starters, last Tuesday and Wednesday I got to be a part of a short horror film aimed at the Body Horror contest in April. Living on the South Shore, I have this fear of getting caught in traffic and being late, so I leave my house before traffic starts, and get to hang out in my car from 7 am, until my call time of 9. Luckily, I expect this downtime, and manage to be productive while waiting, by doing voicework, writing, reading, and…

  • Loving February :)

So, I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am really enjoying 2014. I have been working on some screenplays and catching up on some classics I had never seen, like The Godfather and The Shawshank Redemption, but it’s the acting that really has me excited 🙂 On Tuesday I had a great time in class. I specifically enjoy the audition class, because I get to be a reader in addition to acting. Of course, it’s more interesting to act with another person in your scene instead of a reader beside the camera, but I think I am pretty lucky reader-wise in class, and it is definitely preparation…

  • Indie Filming – Take Two

Today I am writing to you, black and blue, with a neck in pain and a hand that is sprained. Had these injuries occurred while playing a sport, or walking (I am a klutz, so walking can sometimes be dangerous for me), I would probably be in a foul mood right now. But they happened on a film set, so instead, they are the battle wounds I get for doing my own ‘stunts’. After my last post, I went to the Actor’s Fight Club, which is basically a chance to rehearse for the Tom Todoroff workshop which is tomorrow. It was my first time meeting Emilie, and we have a…

  • Lost and Found: Opportunities

There have been a lot of really interesting developments since I last posted, though by now most of them haven’t panned out, so I am being cautiously optimistic about the last one. It all started while I was on my way to acting class with Suzanna. I got a call from a casting agency asking if I was still available for a role (as an extra) that I had applied for over a month ago. It was supposed to be an ACTRA part, so I was so excited that I got it, and couldn’t keep the smile off my face as she told me that wardrobe would be calling. The…

  • Summer is Here!

The sun is shining and life is beautiful! There is something about the weather that makes everything seem happier and easier, although it also means another busy season of movies for Montreal has started without me, but I digress. Wednesday night, I got my first taste of the Actor’s Fight Club. It is supposed to be a place where actors meet to work on auditions or lines or simply come to act. The rules aren’t quite the same as in the movie Fight Club, as it is an entirely different concept, but the first rule, “Leave your ego at the door”, is repeated multiple times in the list. This particular…
