• Acting and Reacting

Have I mentioned how much I love getting to go to class twice in the same week? Because I would go every single day if I could. In class, on set, being a reader…these are my happy places! Since my last post, we filmed our Bridget Jones’ Baby scene, where I stuck to my word and did it with a British accent. It was not at all the right region or social class for Bridget, but I didn’t want to copy Renee Zellweger’s specific way of speaking in the Bridget Jones movies, so I didn’t really hit the mark for the role, but I did have fun using an accent.…

  • Meetups, lines and movies

I have some lines to memorize, some scene work to do and should probably be getting to bed to prepare for my early start tomorrow, but instead, I am writing this post to let you know what has been going on with me. Selfless determination or semi-productive procrastination, you be the judge. In acting/ text, we are working on points of concentration. For instance, we had to do simple tasks, but Debbie would come and whisper some kind of information to us. Sometimes it was environmental, like the time of day, the weather and general atmosphere of where you are. Other times, it was more emotional, like she would tell…

  • Adieu French King

I can’t believe today is the last day of January. I am already done my fourth week in London, which is crazy! On Monday, Debbie had us working on our monologues, and she saw me standing there with my arms crossed, so she told me to stand more open, and to take up more space. Harder said than done for someone who tries to take up the least amount of space and go unnoticed most of the time, but I was determined to try. In stage combat, after we spent most of the class practicing what we had learnt and adding more things to it, we were asked to do…

  • I <3 New York

I brought my computer with me to New York, with full intentions of blogging every few days, or at least once or twice. As you can see, this didn’t happen, but a whole lot did. I got to the Big Apple last Sunday, with hours before I was supposed to rehearse with my scene partner, so I decided to roam around the city. I knew generally which direction Central Park was in from my hotel, so I just set off and found myself in the middle of Times Square. I walked through it to get to Central Park, where I sort of got lost before re-emerging on 72nd street, and…

  • We Accept the Love We Think We Deserve

Last Thursday I did something that I had never done before. There’s a first time for everything, and although going to the movies all by myself wasn’t really on my goal list, it wasn’t half bad. I do this thing where I go to the movies and evaluate the staff in return for free movie tickets. I keep losing the movie tickets, so it hasn’t been going as planned, but that was why I absolutely had to go to the movies, even without a date. I chose Perks of Being a Wallflower, and Pitch Perfect, and have to say I absolutely loved them both. I have recently come to the…

  • Always Be Prepared…

A long time ago, I had decided I would do something every day to advance my career, be it acting, research, calling people or whatever.A week after making this resolution, I decided it was impossible to do something every day, but lately, I seem to be doing it without trying, just because acting is always on my mind, and my favorite thing to think about. Whenever I am near a computer, I just can’t help looking up headshot photographers, acting advice, actorfest, classes…that isn’t to say I don’t do other stuff and have a life, but I keep feeling like the dream is becoming more real, or concrete. Last Saturday,…
