• Dick : The Movie

A few weeks ago I had the awesome opportunity of being on the set of Dick: the movie. My friend asked me to come and do some background, which you usually don’t do for free unless you’re starting out and need the experience, but friends are an exception. And really, I would rather be on set, in any capacity, than almost anywhere else. I was prepared to get there and hang out in the background, watch some acting, maybe meet some new people. The friend in question, Danny Malin, is someone I had wanted to work with eventually, so I thought it would also be an opportunity to see how…

  • D33P W3B

Last week I was in Quebec City, not for a delicious French restaurant, but to film a part in an independent thriller, D33P W3B. I play Kristina, a girl who is very into gaming and sort of gets in a little over her head. The director/writer/producer/cinematographer is Jessy Dupont, who was also behind The Dark Shack that I did years ago. He asked if I would come and be a part of his new movie and so I came. There were so many familiar faces involved in the project (from Dark Shack as well as other ventures) but I only ever had scenes with Daniel, who played my boyfriend in…

  • Another Fear Off the List!

I had a busy couple of days this weekend. First, I spent Friday night in Cornwall for a movie screening with my parents. Then I spent Saturday on set. It was for the MIP that I worked on Thursday night as well. The day started with an unfortunate mishap, since the school they had rented was locked when we got there at 8. It took a little over two hours and about a million phone calls for us to get started. Luckily, we had good company for the wait 😉 I got my makeup done, we did some close ups of me going through a locker, and then I did…

  • It Isn’t Cold Until You Call Cut

The title of this post is in reference to my filming outside on Saturday night, and to the fact that it felt so much warmer between action and cut. It still was cold while we were filming, but you have so many other things on your mind, and you’re in the moment, so it doesn’t affect you as much. Also, everyone was super nice about the weather, letting me wear my jacket until the very last second, and hang out inside while they got everything ready. They also tried to take 5-10 minute breaks every once in a while, just so I could warm up before the next take. Wasn’t…

  • Job Offers and Catching Up

When I wrote my last post, I was on my way to film my second day on a French film called Un Jour En Societe. The location was about an hour an a half from where I live, at a pub that basically let us take over. My character is a waitress/ barmaid, so I pretty much hung out behind the bar all day, sometimes saying lines and interacting with other actors, but sometimes just standing there and trying to look like I belonged. They didn’t close the pub while we were there, so every once in a while, a real customer would come by with an order, and I…

  • Sur le plateau :)

Since I had promised a while ago to write lots of short posts instead of cramming everything into a single one, I thought I would give you a little update before heading out again. First of all, there is a short I did a few months ago, Sasha: Portrait of An Artist, that has been selected for the San Antonio Laughs Film Fest. Huge congrats to the entire team 🙂 Second, I was on set Monday. A French set. Where I had to have a heated argument and talk fast in a language that I don’t normally do that in. I told you I would share how it went and…I…

  • Sets and Scenes

Sometimes, I feel like absolutely nothing is going on for me career-wise, and then I look at my schedule and realize I have something every single day. That is what has happened to me since my last post. If this trend could keep up for the rest of the summer, and my life, that would be amazing 🙂 I spent two days on a French production pretending to be a high school student, which showed me that no matter how young people (including myself) still think I am, I am way older than actual high school students. Not that I have all the answers or have all these life experiences,…

  • Sets and Inspiration

After a very productive Saturday spent learning valuable lessons from Bonnie Gillespie and the SMFA group, as well as editing the book I wrote last November, I got to spend most of Sunday on set 🙂 Unlike Friday, this time we actually had a lot of filming to do. Mostly short scenes of me doing things without, but there was also a scene with dialogue. Less down time than a few days ago, but we still got to catch up. And no matter how the rest of my life is going, when I am on set I feel like I am accomplishing something. So that empowering feeling mixed with my…

  • Research, Rehearse, Film <3

I have been checking a lot of things off of my list in the past few days, but first, I wanted to thank everyone for all of the headshot love <3 On Thursday night at rehearsals we went through all of our scenes, ironing out the kinks and finalizing what we have already worked on. I am off book and can’t wait to see what it will look like with costumes and the set and everything 🙂 Yesterday I was supposed to have an audition for an amazing project by someone whose work I respect. The breakdown for the role was almost word for word the one I had written…

  • On Set Yoga

Once I had shared my 30 by 30 list with my father, he handed me a flyer for a blood drive at our local mall that started last Wednesday. Wasting no time, we headed over so I could sign up, get my pin, answer all of the nurse’s questions, and then fail when it got to the blood test. Apparently, my iron level is really low, so they won’t let me give blood. Instead, the nurse gave me a flyer with a list of foods I should be eating more of in order to increase my iron. So, still have 30 left to do, and Iron Man I am not.…
