• Indie Filming – Take Two

Today I am writing to you, black and blue, with a neck in pain and a hand that is sprained. Had these injuries occurred while playing a sport, or walking (I am a klutz, so walking can sometimes be dangerous for me), I would probably be in a foul mood right now. But they happened on a film set, so instead, they are the battle wounds I get for doing my own ‘stunts’. After my last post, I went to the Actor’s Fight Club, which is basically a chance to rehearse for the Tom Todoroff workshop which is tomorrow. It was my first time meeting Emilie, and we have a…

  • Lost and Found: Opportunities

There have been a lot of really interesting developments since I last posted, though by now most of them haven’t panned out, so I am being cautiously optimistic about the last one. It all started while I was on my way to acting class with Suzanna. I got a call from a casting agency asking if I was still available for a role (as an extra) that I had applied for over a month ago. It was supposed to be an ACTRA part, so I was so excited that I got it, and couldn’t keep the smile off my face as she told me that wardrobe would be calling. The…

  • I <3 New York

I brought my computer with me to New York, with full intentions of blogging every few days, or at least once or twice. As you can see, this didn’t happen, but a whole lot did. I got to the Big Apple last Sunday, with hours before I was supposed to rehearse with my scene partner, so I decided to roam around the city. I knew generally which direction Central Park was in from my hotel, so I just set off and found myself in the middle of Times Square. I walked through it to get to Central Park, where I sort of got lost before re-emerging on 72nd street, and…

  • New Jobs and Toronto Meetings

Guys, it is August 2nd. Where did the summer go? I can’t believe that in 2 days I will be flying to New York for the Tom Todoroff Intensive I thought was so far away…but I digress, this post is about those 2 exciting things that have happened to me in the past few days 🙂 First, after my last post, I headed to Montreal for an orientation. Back when I wanted to be a doctor, there was a presentation I attended on going Pre-Med at McGill and they had this simulation lab that looked amazing. I have never not been interested in acting, so even then, it seemed like…

  • Always Trust Your Instincts

This was another busy week for me, with more family visiting from out of town. This does take up a lot of my time, but you need to take a break and recharge your batteries every once in a while, not to mention giving yourself a chance to miss the crazy acting lifestyle 🙂 It was a long day on set Thursday, though I wasn’t in many scenes, so I had a lot of downtime and met some new friends. Now last week I mentioned some things that were going on that I couldn’t talk about yet. Part of me would still rather not admit defeat, but although I want to…

  • Busy as a Bee

I haven’t written in forever, which is partially because I have been busy, but mostly because there are two things that I wanted to figure out before sharing with you. Since they still haven’t been resolved, I decided to post what I can, and to give you the rest once I have all of the information. Since it has been quite a while, I won’t give you the day by day summaries I normally do, but will just let you know what has been going on with me (for the most part). I have had two classes with Suzanna. During the first one, I got to do 3 different scenes!…

  • My first Award Show

I had a nice, busy weekend, followed by a relatively relaxing Monday. On Friday I was lucky enough to be an extra with some friends, and also got to make some new ones. It was a much smaller set than the one I have been on recently, so the crew ate with the extras, and there were a lot less people. I thoroughly enjoyed the call time of nearly noon, compared to the 3-4 a.m. I had gotten used to. I didn’t really enjoy driving home with the bridge closed due to fireworks, but all considered it was a very fun day!   On Saturday, I had Day 1 of…

  • Wraps, Trailers and Acting Income

Last week after posting here, I received my first cheque representing acting income (at least since deciding to make acting my full-time career). It wasn’t a huge amount, and I would have gotten paid more for working at my previous job, even before the promotion, but it was validation. Not to mention that my mom pointed out that i would rather work for free on movie sets than for 40 000 a year at my old job. I also went for some shopping and to see The Bling Ring with Carolyne and Morgan. It was a different kind of acting, but it was interesting. And, they both seem to be…

  • Auditions and Monologues

Summer has begun, and I now have a closet full of pretty dresses and shorts and summer clothes to wear! This seems silly to mention, but since I was 11, I worked at a campground, which meant that I spent the majority of my summer wearing a uniform, savoring the few precious days that I could actually wear normal clothes. Now that I quit my job, I can wear summer dresses every day! Which is exciting, but also terrifying, because having no job means I have no income. Which is probably why I have a love and hate relationship with my trip to the states last weekend. I had an…

  • Sunshine and Someday :)

I realize that the weather has been a prominent factor in my last few posts, and with good reason. On Wednesday, I was out for a walk with my family when I found out that I would be spending the next few days on set. Wardrobe asked that we dress for early spring, with lots of layers, so after lots of deliberations and hunting for lost shoes, my mom and I came out with a really cute outfit that would keep me warm if it were early spring, but that had enough layers that I could ‘strip down’ to a summery dress between takes if it got too hot. I…
