Back in Class!
This past week has been pretty busy for me, and I love feeling like I am actually doing something. On Thursday, I went back to class with Suzanna Lenir, and did in fact get to catch up with some friends who were there before I left, and also meet some new ones. I arrived there almost a half an hour before class, but spent the whole time talking with my fellow classmates about my trip to LA and our acting journeys. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who feels overwhelmed by all the decisions and figuring out we have to do 🙂
I was given a scene from Girls, which is actually from the episode after the one I had done way back when, but I have moved on from being Shoshanna, and got to be Hannah, interacting with Elijah, which I think is hilarious. We have two weeks to learn our scenes, so they are longer, and I also have to work on genuinely crying and getting worked up, which I am secretly terrified that I can’t do. I am mostly working on my scene for Tom at the moment, but as soon as that is done, I will be working extremely hard on summoning the emotions needed to make it real for me. Scary, but also really exciting!
On Saturday, I didn’t do much except learn my lines on the acting front, but I had an amazing night at a friend’s birthday party. I hadn’t seen them since the summer, so they asked about my trip, we caught up, and it warmed my heart when my cousin told his friend I was going to be the next Jennifer Aniston. It’s surprising where the support can come from when you stop being afraid of sharing your dream. My great aunt reads every blog post I make, and although her belief that I should be a writer instead isn’t exactly the result I was hoping for, I clearly have a very supportive family, which means the world to me.
On Sunday, I finally met my scene partner for the Tom Todoroff intensive next weekend. We all know I am shy, but Lisa is so open and bubbly that I couldn’t help but open up and talk excitedly about our previous experiences at Tom Todoroff, acting, agents, improv…We often attempted to rehearse our scene, and then would end up talking for 15 minutes before being able to get back to work. I can’t wait for next weekend!
Yesterday, today and tomorrow have me pretty immersed in my day job, which means postponing my coffee date, but I do love getting together with the managers from the other campgrounds. They are all so nice and supportive and like to tell me what my mom said when I was away. She probably thinks I am crazy, because she asked if I would be interested in a more permanent position at the company, with a really good salary, and I said no, for a few reasons, but mostly because a full-time job wouldn’t allow me the freedom to audition and take classes like I want to.
In other news, I did not get the role I auditioned for last week, which is sad, but then I found this really cool Beginners Stunt Class, which I am choosing to focus on instead. It has sword fighting and parcours and acrobatics and high falling and all the things that are absolutely terrifying and exhilarating at the same time. This class, paired with the Insanity program that I started yesterday, should get me a lot closer to the awesome characters I hope to play, and will hopefully help me survive Tough Mudder in July!
