Back, with Knaps

After two weeks off, it was nice to get back to Stage Combat on Saturday. We learnt strikes (punches made to look fake for the stage), as well as a few combinations of the 5 of them (jab, straight, cross, hook and upper cut). It was a lot of fun, especially when we were doing them with a partner (as opposed to just striking into thin air). Does that make me a terrible person? It’s just a lot easier when you have someone to interact with and play off of.

Unfortunately, my upper chest is not so pleased with being back. In stage combat, the noise you create to make it sound like you are punching someone else is called a knap. For strikes, they are achieved by hitting your own chest with the hand that isn’t striking. It works great in a stage fight where you have to do it a couple of times, but two hours spent creating knaps (or snapping my head to create the reaction) means my body is not as excited as the rest of me. But let’s be clear, I regret nothing, and can’t wait to go back next weekend 😉

Sunday started off with the Walk for Heart, which we do every year to raise awareness for a good cause, and get some exercise at the same time. The walk was followed by a barbecue, and the day finished with an audition for a short film. I completely misjudged the intentions behind the words, so only one of my takes was on point, but it was still a lot of fun, and I got to meet some people in the waiting room/hallway. I also love auditioning when I know the person running the audition, because it is a lot less nerve-wracking, I get to see a friendly face, and I feel like I am getting to know my way around the Montreal acting scene.
