Both Sides Now
I had three scenes to work on for Tuesday’s class, although one will have to wait until next week’s audition class 🙁 The first was a dramatic scene from Bloodline, which I have seen done before in class, but had never seen the show. I watched the pilot before class, so I would at least know who all of the players were. Plus, with Suzanna now having multiple Bloodline scenes in her repertoire, I kind of really wanted to check it out (and will probably keep watching it;) ) After watching the first episode…the more work I did on the scene, the more excited I was to step into Meg’s…

I <3 Comedy
I made a discovery last night. I love comedy. And I love playing angry in a scene, especially if this scene is a comedy. I had never met my scene partner, but I did know some of the people who weren’t there last week. We also got a visit before class, and talked about the business and how long it takes to get credits, or what is considered a good year and so on. Very enlightening, depressing, and exciting, all at once. I was on camera for the first two groups, then me and my scene partner got to run our lines a few times before we went up, at…

Deep in Comedy
Not long before class, I found out that one of my scene partners would not be coming, because they are killing it at work, so I only had one scene to do last night, the comedic one from Playing House. When the other girls had done this scene in the Wednesday class, Suzanna told the one playing my character that she could wear a fake belly if she wanted, so I decided to take that advice and wore a loose dress with a large sweatshirt. The belly only survived the first take, because it was hard to juggle the sweatshirt as well as the chair, which I ended up dropping.…

Testing my RP
If you remember, a while ago I asked Suzanna if she could maybe find me a scene where I could work on my British accent (RP). This week, my scene partner couldn’t make it to our usual class time, so she found me a new scene, from Bridesmaids, where I got to be British 🙂 It was a short and easy, hilarious scene, but I could feel my heart pounding and the nerves building up the whole time I was filming and being on book for the other scenes. For some reason, even Suzanna’s confidence that I was well-prepared and had the accent down pat made me even more nervous.…

Self-tapes and Troll dates
After an unexpectedly family-centric weekend, with very little work getting done, I got back to the grind on Tuesday. I spent most of my day learning lines and working on some monologues for self-tapes. In one, I had to use an accent, which was definitely interesting, although there was something about the dialogue that gave you a little twang, even if you didn’t mean to. The second one, which consisted of two monologues, was fun to do, but I am not sure I captured their essence of the character, more like my own interpretation of her. Normally, I would stress out about that and try to fix it, which maybe…

Auditioning for Comedy
Yesterday I had an audition/reading to see if I could actually do comedy. You see, I had a meeting with this Director/Writer/Producer at the end of August, and we seemed to hit it off, except that you generally need to be able to demonstrate some kind of acting ability before being cast. He had seen my demo reel, and liked the work I had done, but my demo reel and CV are both desperately lacking in the comedy department. This isn’t to say that I have never done comedy, but it is mostly in class settings, like in the following picture, from Michele and my’s first Tom Todoroff workshop 😉…
