The Fear of Seduction
This month in class I am partnered with Nick, who finally came back to Tuesdays 🙂 Our scene is from Coupling and I absolute love it. Not only is it hilarious and so much fun to play, it also has me working on something that was once absolutely terrifying to me, but is now…fun? Forever ago, when I was in LA, my scene required me to try and seduce someone. I was failing miserably, so my teacher gave me homework. I wanted to be the girl next door that the guy just happens to fall in love with, because flirting or being seductive was either scary, or made me feel…

Almost Missed Opportunities
When I first got my facebook account, my dad made it a rule that I could only be friends with people I actually know, and have met in person. To this day, I still know every one of my facebook friends. I can tell you how I know them, possibly what they’ve been up to, as well as when and where we met. Except for all of those people that I haven’t met. Some of them are family who live far away. But some of them are potential friends I never ended up meeting, either because the projects fell through, we never shared any scenes, or, unfortunately, I flaked. For…

Ron Leach Workshop
I have been trying to take part in this workshop with Ron Leach for years, but the dates have never worked out, or the workshop got cancelled. Which is why I was so excited to finally be able to learn from him last weekend! I had the schedule for the weekend, and I saw we would be watching Shurtleff on Friday night, so I was ready. Having read Audition, and taken multiple workshops with Tom Todoroff, I know all my guideposts, in numerical order, and was fully prepared to list them off. I even reread Audition, so it would be fresh. This is not what happened. It started off with…

That’s a Wrap :)
I am now back home, after the bittersweet wrap of my character in the movie. It is really good to be home, and to get back to the hustle, but I definitely miss getting up every day and acting. Last Saturday I had the Tom Todoroff workshop. Emilie and I practiced extensively on Friday, putting so much effort into the blocking and using everything Tom has ever told me or anyone else at a workshop. Every movement had to be motivated, the scene had to go somewhere, we had to remember the time period…It was a lot of fun and we got there on Saturday, me with Carolyne and her…

Lost and Found: Opportunities
There have been a lot of really interesting developments since I last posted, though by now most of them haven’t panned out, so I am being cautiously optimistic about the last one. It all started while I was on my way to acting class with Suzanna. I got a call from a casting agency asking if I was still available for a role (as an extra) that I had applied for over a month ago. It was supposed to be an ACTRA part, so I was so excited that I got it, and couldn’t keep the smile off my face as she told me that wardrobe would be calling. The…

New Jobs and Toronto Meetings
Guys, it is August 2nd. Where did the summer go? I can’t believe that in 2 days I will be flying to New York for the Tom Todoroff Intensive I thought was so far away…but I digress, this post is about those 2 exciting things that have happened to me in the past few days 🙂 First, after my last post, I headed to Montreal for an orientation. Back when I wanted to be a doctor, there was a presentation I attended on going Pre-Med at McGill and they had this simulation lab that looked amazing. I have never not been interested in acting, so even then, it seemed like…

Busy as a Bee
I haven’t written in forever, which is partially because I have been busy, but mostly because there are two things that I wanted to figure out before sharing with you. Since they still haven’t been resolved, I decided to post what I can, and to give you the rest once I have all of the information. Since it has been quite a while, I won’t give you the day by day summaries I normally do, but will just let you know what has been going on with me (for the most part). I have had two classes with Suzanna. During the first one, I got to do 3 different scenes!…

Wraps, Trailers and Acting Income
Last week after posting here, I received my first cheque representing acting income (at least since deciding to make acting my full-time career). It wasn’t a huge amount, and I would have gotten paid more for working at my previous job, even before the promotion, but it was validation. Not to mention that my mom pointed out that i would rather work for free on movie sets than for 40 000 a year at my old job. I also went for some shopping and to see The Bling Ring with Carolyne and Morgan. It was a different kind of acting, but it was interesting. And, they both seem to be…

You Gotta Have Faith…And A Few Other Things :)
Last Saturday was the big performance. Or so my stress level seems to think of the Tom Todoroff workshop. I woke up at 3 a.m. seriously convinced that I needed to start learning my lines. Luckily, when I woke up again a few hours later, I remembered that I knew the words, had worked on it on my own, at the Fight Club, and with Lara at my house the day before. Still, the pressure was on, considering the praise I got with Lisa last time. I got there early with the intention of rehearsing some more, but instead ended up blowing balloons for Tom’s birthday party. Johnny came…

All You Need Is Love <3
Last week I had the honor of being a part of my grandparents’ 55th wedding anniversary party. We spent Friday decorating the hall, then Saturday fixing flowers, rehearsing speeches and getting ready before the party finally happened. It was an opportunity to get the family together for a happy occasion, but it was also pretty amazing to realize that 55 years ago, these two people decided to spend the rest of their lives together, and they still love and are committed to each other to this day. With the rate of successful marriages dropping with each generation, it’s refreshing. And it reminds me that if all else fails, if the…
