Another Year Older
Since we are a year into my 30 by 30 list, I thought I would write a little post to fill you in on how that has been going 🙂 I have knit a baby blanket, and will be starting a new one tomorrow, as soon as I have bought some more yarn. Now that I know that I can, I definitely want to knit a blanket every time that someone close to me is having a baby. I spent a few really lovely days in New Orleans while on a road trip last Spring with my parents. Really cool to see the city in real life rather than on…

Rehearsals and Plays
Last week we had no classes, just rehearsals, which meant lots of downtime to work on lines and see some theatre 🙂 There was a discount code on today tix for Easter weekend, so I had bought tickets to The Play That Goes Wrong (possibly the funniest play I have ever seen), Phantom of the Opera and Hand to God. The first plays went off without a hitch, but then when I went to see Hand to God on Wednesday, there was an announcement that Harry Melling would not be performing that night. I know it’s bad of me and I should be going to see plays regardless of who…

Finding Your Voice
This week in class, I continued with my doing things that scare me mantra, but I also took my last director’s and Stevie’s note to heart, about being on voice. This was much easier said than done. Monday morning, we worked on our monologues in voice class, then when we got to Debbie’s class, I volunteered to present mine. I kind of wanted to change my mind after Sydney was so good at hers, but I still got up and did it. The first time, I stumbled on some words, so when she asked me how it went, I said not so great. I might have lied had I…

Comedy of Manners
This semester is divided into 3 performances. We started with Shakespeare histories, which were only shown to our little groups, then we have Comedies of Manner, which are shown to the other semester students and staff, before finishing with Shakespeare tragedies, which I believe is also for semester students and the staff. Yesterday were our performances, as well as tutorials, so other than dance night and my teas, we have been spending all of our time rehearsing. It was so nice to finally get to see everyone in the program perform, since we are all in different sections. Another group was also doing the exact same scene as mine with…

First Week and the Tower :)
For our first week in the program, the teachers really took it easy on us. After a first day of mostly games, and a second spent visiting Hampton Court Palace, the rest of the week was very relaxed as well. On Wednesday, we started late with Debbie, who had us moving a lot. The best way I could think to describe it was that we were seeing how certain imaginary circumstances affect us physically (but also emotionally). For instance, we divided into pairs, and it was super easy for my partner to bend my arm when I was forcing it to stay straight. It was less easy when I relaxed…

1st Day & Hampton Court Palace
Yesterday was my first day at LAMDA 🙂 We mostly just went over the schedule, had the basics explained to us and our questions answered. Until the afternoon. That’s when we played a bunch of games to possibly get rid of some shyness, and to have everyone get to know each other. Which continued during welcome snacks and drinks in the evening. Even with yesterday and all of my prior research, I am not sure what to expect from the course, but I am pretty sure that I am going to have an amazing time studying with all of these people 🙂 Today we didn’t have classes, but a school…

My Goals for 2016
Happy New Year! I have the feeling that this year will be full of amazing experiences, and that’s not just because I am hours away from a flight to London. For one, this year I am making my resolutions things that I can accomplish without relying on other people. That might not make sense, seeing how a few of them were on the list previous years and I still haven’t crossed them off, but that’s because I am changing my definition of success. As long as I have done everything in my power to accomplish these resolutions, I will have won. Because even if I don’t get to where I…

Looking Back on 2015
I made a list at the beginning on the year of all of the things I wanted to do. I am going to quickly cover my progress on those items, but I want the majority of this post to be about all of the awesome things I did manage to do, regardless of the list I had set out with. Film something that I wrote: Although I did write a few scenes and a short that I would like to film, I only got as far as sending the scenes to Carolyne for her opinion. I did, however, do Self-tapes with scenes and monologues I had written for myself. Which,…

My Last Class…For now
Tuesday night was our last class with Suzanna this year, but it was also my last class until I get back from London, which seems like forever, although I’m sure it will go by in the blink of an eye. We each had a scene that we did audition style, before moving on to the Pizza and Wine Party. My scene was short and sweet (except for not actually sweet) from Accidentally on Purpose. Without any context and completely ignoring one of his lines, I did the scene way too sweet and nice, since I figured I was trying to make the best of an awkward run in with an…

The Holiday Scenework
I got some extra work on Sunday, which was really lovely, especially since it was such a short day and I got to spend it with friends 🙂 Not to mention the girl we work with who was playing one of the leads! Then yesterday, I had class with Suzanna. Everything is kind of weird this month as far as everyone’s schedules go, and they keep changing, then we went way over for classtime. In the end, we pushed my Rachel Getting Married scene to tomorrow, since Ashleigh and I will both be there. We also saw the same scene twice. Now I don’t do this so much with TV…
