Something to Talk About

In one of my earlier posts, I wrote how talking about your dreams can help them come true. Lately, talking about things has created somewhat of a snowball effect. For one, my last blog post garnered an invitation to go to the country and learn how to shoot, which never would have happened if I hadn’t talked about it (I come off as a very innocent, girly girl).

Now the really exciting development…Because I share my journey on the Tricaillin set, a friend of mine decided to go through me when the link to submit himself for the film didn’t work. He got the part and will soon be featured in my behind the scenes pictures 🙂 Then, when I congratulated and asked him about some work he got, he offered to send my CV and headshot to his agent. I wasn’t sure what to expect, since my submissions hadn’t been so successful, but before I woke up the next morning, I already had a reply and a meeting for that afternoon! We met and she told me a lot about how she works, how she got into being an agent, what she is working on now…I headed for Suzanna’s class so excited and full of hope! I haven’t got anything yet (it has only been a week) but it feels nice to have someone else in my field, fighting for me. On the other hand, I also have to give away some control, since certain companies would rather deal with your agent if you have one, but I am choosing to believe that it will all work out for the best.

I was partnered with Atena for the scene in Suzanna’s class, which happens to end with a slap and some hair pulling. Both are new to me, but very exciting 🙂

A few weeks ago, I mentioned some decisions that needed to be made, and I was leaving it up to the universe. But, as when you toss a coin up in the air, in the moment when you await the verdict, you know what you want…All this to say the manager position opened up at my work, and I had applied. But, the more I thought about it (and tried to balance classes and filming and work and family) the more I realized that I wouldn’t be happy managing a campground for the rest of my life. I want to act, even if I never get to Hollywood and I never “make it”, it is still what I want to spend the rest of my life doing. It also didn’t help when half of my job interview was spent answering their questions about my time in Los Angeles and my current classes. So, I withdrew my candidacy, and will thus be without a job and steady income as soon as I have trained the new person they will hire. It is absolutely terrifying, and I crave the security that job had offered, but at the same time, I know I made the right decision, and mixed with the fear is excitement at all of the possibilities that are open to me.

On Saturday, I spent the morning helping some friends/family move, before having to rush off to film some scenes for Tricaillin. If you check my facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/AmandaLynnPetrin  , you will get a taste of what we were doing, but I will share that my arms were definitely sore, and my clothes got muddy 🙂

Sunday was Mother’s Day, so I got to spend it with my family, including these two beautiful women! Growing up, someone has to teach you how to dream, and I was lucky enough to be surrounded by people who didn’t let their situation or education or anything stop them from climbing and going further than anyone could have expected. They not only inspire me to follow my own dreams, they support me in them as well!

Yesterday, I treated myself to a movie, The Great Gatsby, with Carolyne. It has been getting mixed reviews, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and hope to one day get the chance to be a part of one of these productions. The company wasn’t too bad either 🙂

Last night we had the Actors Fight Club again, this time with our shorter scene. We did the beginning part multiple times, and definitely have a lot to work on, but we also have a lot of advice and encouragement to make it as amazing as it can be. I’m looking at a lot of rehearsing over the next week!

This morning, I got up incredibly early so I could get to Montreal to film a commercial. It is going to be entered in a contest, and will only be shown if we win, but I always really enjoy meeting and working with likeminded people. Not to mention that any chance to act is fine by me 🙂 I will keep you posted on how the contest turns out!

Unfortunately, filming the commercial made me get slightly behind at work, so I couldn’t make it to Suzanna’s class, which I had been looking forward to (I was going to slap someone and get my hair pulled). I did, however, manage to get some dresses for a project I might be lucky enough to be a part of in the coming months.

I have had a very busy week, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon, but apart from when I am occasionally overcome with stress, I am loving every second of it 🙂

Good job on deciding what you want and giving up the manager’s position. I did that right before I left for my leave of absence. Everyone thought I was crazy.

You will make it to Hollywood. You’re paving your way as we write.
