Begin Again :)
Yesterday I felt like an actor. And a writer. It was wonderful 😉 My workday officially started with an audition for a horror movie, without a script, where we are filming ourselves, sort of like The Blair Witch project. We will have characters, and a storyline, but the dialogue will come from our own reactions, in the moment. This is what he explained when I got there, then had me audition with some sides he had sent. I used to always learn my lines without really paying much attention to my scene partner’s lines, which you can get away with most of the time, but unless you are doing it…

Both Sides Now
I had three scenes to work on for Tuesday’s class, although one will have to wait until next week’s audition class 🙁 The first was a dramatic scene from Bloodline, which I have seen done before in class, but had never seen the show. I watched the pilot before class, so I would at least know who all of the players were. Plus, with Suzanna now having multiple Bloodline scenes in her repertoire, I kind of really wanted to check it out (and will probably keep watching it;) ) After watching the first episode…the more work I did on the scene, the more excited I was to step into Meg’s…

Back, with Knaps
After two weeks off, it was nice to get back to Stage Combat on Saturday. We learnt strikes (punches made to look fake for the stage), as well as a few combinations of the 5 of them (jab, straight, cross, hook and upper cut). It was a lot of fun, especially when we were doing them with a partner (as opposed to just striking into thin air). Does that make me a terrible person? It’s just a lot easier when you have someone to interact with and play off of. Unfortunately, my upper chest is not so pleased with being back. In stage combat, the noise you create to make…

We Filmed A Scene!!!
Before I start, I want to thank Lorraine and my dad, from the bottom of my heart, without whom this endeavour would not have been possible. <3 One of my goals for this month (also a resolution for 2016) was to film a scene that I wrote. My requirements were mostly to have someone other than me filming, and to have another actor in the scene with me. This way, the challenge wasn’t just sharing words that I wrote myself, but also asking people to give their time and effort to help me. This was really scary for me, so there was a lot of procrastinating and delaying. I had…

I <3 Comedy
I made a discovery last night. I love comedy. And I love playing angry in a scene, especially if this scene is a comedy. I had never met my scene partner, but I did know some of the people who weren’t there last week. We also got a visit before class, and talked about the business and how long it takes to get credits, or what is considered a good year and so on. Very enlightening, depressing, and exciting, all at once. I was on camera for the first two groups, then me and my scene partner got to run our lines a few times before we went up, at…

Deep in Comedy
Not long before class, I found out that one of my scene partners would not be coming, because they are killing it at work, so I only had one scene to do last night, the comedic one from Playing House. When the other girls had done this scene in the Wednesday class, Suzanna told the one playing my character that she could wear a fake belly if she wanted, so I decided to take that advice and wore a loose dress with a large sweatshirt. The belly only survived the first take, because it was hard to juggle the sweatshirt as well as the chair, which I ended up dropping.…

Another Weekend On Sets
I started off the weekend in the best way possible; at a spa and dinner date with my best friend for her birthday. On Saturday, I was background on a series that films here in Montreal, pretending to be a university student. I feel like I have never been so productive as when I was sitting in a classroom, listening to a lecture, so being able to do that without any kind of exam or testing on the material is absolutely wonderful 😉 I met some people, and got a lot of insight from one of the 3rd ADs. It was also really nice to see someone I know and…

Two Is Better Than One…
…And Four Is Even Better! This month I get to go to Suzanna’s class on both Tuesday and Wednesday, which is one of my favorite things! Even better is that this month I am doubled up, so I had two scenes on Tuesday, and then due to scheduling, I got two scenes on Wednesday as well. On Tuesday, I got to class early after a golf lesson with my parents, and when Suzanna asked me how my week went, I said ‘Okay’, not really thinking it was much to write home about. Because in my head I had been thinking about all the things I need to do but am…

A Perfect Labor Day Weekend
When I left work on Friday, everyone was anticipating the long weekend. Yesterday was Labor Day, which could have meant 3 days spent lounging by the pool, catching up on some reading…a vacation. Instead, I got to do something a million times better. I got to act and do what I love all 3 days. It started out on Saturday, with some outdoor scenes for Diablo, a short fan film I am lucky enough to be a part of. We had to create an old medieval village, so I was out in the country with an awesome group of people. I decided to take advantage of the remoteness and didn’t…

September 2016
Near the end of every month, I start making a list of goals to accomplish over the next 30 days, because the 1st always seems like the perfect day to start again with a blank slate, or turn over a new leaf. Unfortunately, I often let myself get sidetracked, and convince myself things aren’t as important as I had made them out to be, which leads to certain things being continuously moved from month to month, never getting done. Years ago, I used to share my goals for the month in a blog post, which even if no one replied to, still held me accountable, and kept me motivated to…
